GARDAI in Bruff are investigating an alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl from County Limerick.

The incidents are understood to have taken place in Colmanswell, County Limerick and North Cork on February 1.

Gardaí were alerted to the alleged incidents after the teenage girl made a statement at Charleville garda station earlier this week.

She alleges that she was raped and sexually assaulted by a number of individuals in the Colmanswell area of County Limerick and in the Charleville/ Ballyhea area of County Cork.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist them in their investigation to come forward.

“Anyone who may have information that may be of relevance to the Gardai we would appreciate if they would come forward,”said Inspector Paul Reidy.

The teenager who is said to have been extremely traumatised was taken to hospital in Limerick.

As part of a joint operation with Charleville gardaí, officers from Bruff carried out searches in the Kilmallock and Charleville areas on Wednesday and removed several items for examination.

A number of people were interviewed. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information can contact Bruff Gardaí on 061 382940.
