Gardai await analysis of weapons seized during Limerick searches
Gardai attached to Roxboro Road garda station are investigating the discovery of a 'vast array' of weapons at a house in Southill
THE results of ballistic and forensic tests are awaited following the discovery of a “vast array” of weapons at a house on the southside of the city last week.
Up to eight samurai swords were amongst the weapons seized by gardai during searches of a house in the John Carew Park area of Southill.
The house was searched under warrant by gardai investigating ongoing criminality and several incidents which have been linked to a so-called feud.
The feud between two families living on the southside of the city is believed to have broken out a number of weeks ago after a horse belonging to one of the families went missing.
There have been a number of violent incidents since including at least two mass brawls and several incidents of windows being smashed.
In addition, at least one person is believed to have been assaulted.
While some of the samurai swords seized at the house in John Carew Park were ornamental in nature, it is understood a number of the them were found concealed inside the property.
Several other potential weapons, including sticks and golf clubs, were also removed from the house and have been sent do Garda Headquarters for forensic analysis.
Investigating gardai have confirmed that a number of people have been questioned in relation to the weapons seized at the house and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Meanwhile, during a separate but connected search a loaded handgun was also found in the John Carew Park area.
The Glock pistol and magazine were found at an alleyway located to the rear of a number of houses at Ashe Avenue, John Carew Park.
Detectives at Roxboro Road garda station are awaiting the results of forensic and ballistic tests on the weapon.
No arrests have been made in relation to the firearm.
