Funeral arrangements announced for teen who died after road crash near Limerick border

HUGE crowds are expected to pay their respects at the home and funeral Mass of Clódagh Cummins of Clonbrick, Ayle, Cappawhite.
The 19-year-old was involved in a single vehicle accident close to her home in the early hours of Sunday, February 10.
The talented musician, footballer and student lost her fight for life on Sunday in Cork University Hospital.
Clódagh’s tragic death has left everyone who knew her distraught. The funeral Mass takes place at 11.30am on Thursday following reposal at the family home from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday evening.
Clódagh will be sadly missed by her heartbroken parents Annette and Tom, sisters Rebecca, Sinéad and Bláthnaid, special family members Adam and Jayden, grandfather PJ, grandmothers Anna and Mae, aunts, uncles, cousins and a wonderful circle of friends. .
On February 10 Clódagh was kindly dropping friends home as she hadn’t been drinking, and her death is being treated as a tragic accident.
Derry Peters, who had coached her at county and club level with Cappawhite, said there was “absolute devastation” when they heard the terrible news.
“We were playing an intermediate match on Sunday when we got the phone call. You can’t put into words the reaction from the girls. She was so popular with everybody who knew her,” said Mr Peters.
He said Clódagh was very quiet and lady-like off the pitch but on it she was a talented footballer with a “never give up attitude”.
“You would come into a training session and you wouldn’t even know she was there but she still had a big presence about her. She was a real team player,” said Mr Peters.
Clódagh even travelled home from college in Cork two nights a week to train.
Everyone involved in Cappawhite GAA circles pass on their sympathies to the Cummins family as do all in St Joseph’s Secondary School in Doon.
“A quiet, unassuming girl who always had a smile. An exemplary student and role model who was popular with students,teachers and staff,” said John Kinsella, principal.
Clódagh received the school footballer of the year award and as an extremely talented pianist and flutist travelled to Prague in 2007 to participate in an international music festival.
“Clódagh was an integral part of all music activities in school including school masses, services, concerts and traditional groups.
“As an impressive first year, she was selected to represent the school at both junior and senior grades on the football field. Clódagh was an extremely committed player with an excellent work rate both at training and match day,” said Mr Kinsella, who adds that Clódagh’s school circle of friends have remained close after finishing school and are all remembered fondly during this difficult time by staff at St Joseph’s.
“The school staff would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the Cummins family and to Clódagh’s older sister, Rebecca, who is a past pupil. Clódagh will be remembered fondly and will be deeply missed,” said Mr Kinsella.
