Flood crisis team stands down

The Crisis Management Team, which has been monitoring water levels on the Shannon River, has decided to stand down as fears of flooding recede.

Residents and business people breathed a sigh of relief when the river did not break its bank during high tide over the weekend as initially feared.

The city council has thanked the local community for the support they received over the past two weeks, and have assured that they will continue to monitor the river's level as part of its normal ongoing activities.

"Residents and business people are reminded that if they become concerned at any stage in the future about a rising water level near their property, they should contact the council at 061 407100," said a spokesperson for the local authority.
