FIVE men, including two brothers, are being questioned by gardai in connection with a feud which has erupted in the southside of the city in recent weeks.

The men, who are all aged in their 20s, were arrested in the Southill area this morning during a series of planned searched which began at 6.30am.

They are being questioned at Henry Street and Roxboro Road garda stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Supt Dan Keane said the arrests are linked to investigations into ongoing criminality and feuding in the Clonlong and John Carew Park areas of the city.

A number violent incidents have happened over the past fortnight following an escalation of tensions between a number of individuals who live in the two areas.

Earlier this week, there was a mass-brawl outside the Social Welfare offices on Dominick Street and other offences have included stabbings and incidents of criminal damage.

The five men arrested today can be held without charge until tomorrow morning.
