Firearm and ammunition seized during dramatic arrest in Limerick city

A MAN is garda custody after being dramatically arrested in Limerick city this afternoon.
The 25-year-old was arrested shortly after 12 midday when gardai stopped a car near the junction of Mallow Street and O’Connell Street.
The vehicle was dramatically stopped by members of the armed regional response unit and the man was ordered to lie on the ground by officers before he was arrested and taken to Roxboro Garda Station.
The incident happened near the Belltable Arts Centre and almost directly across the Road from the fomer headquarters of Limerick County Council.
According to eyewitnesses, the operation to arrest the man lasted for less than 90 seconds.
Gardai have confirmed the man, who is from Cork, is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
A firearm and a quantity of ammunition were recovered during the operation.
