Elderly couple mugged in County Limerick after making cash withdrawal

GARDA are appealing for information after an elderly couple who made a cash withdrawal from a bank had the money stolen from them.

The incident took place at around 1.30pm on May 14, last at the couple’s home in Lisnagry.

A short time earlier they had withdrawn a considerable sum of money in cash from a bank in Castletroy.

“We believe that a male who was in the bank at the time monitored the withdrawal. When the couple arrived home they were just getting out of the car when a young male, wearing dark coloured clothing, grabbed the lady’s handbag which contained the cash. He then ran back out onto the road and got into a silver car which drove off at speed,” said Garda Denise Haverty.

Gardaí at Castleconnell are examining CCTV from the bank and they are anxious to speak with anyone who saw anything suspicious on the day.
