Dad who stole groceries ‘didn’t have money to pay’

A FATHER stole groceries from the Super Valu in Charleville because he didn’t have the money to pay for them, heard Kilmallock Court.
James Ensor, aged, 28, of Orchard Heights, Charleville was fined €100 for the offence by Judge Mary Larkin.
Superintendent Pat McCarthy said on August 11 at 12.30pm gardai received a phone call from the Super Valu.
“Garda Dillon viewed CCTV footage. Ensor took groceries to the value of €38.31 and made full admissions.
“All the property was recovered,” said Supt McCarthy.
Ensor’s solicitor, Audrey Browne, said her client can’t explain why he did it.
“He made a full statement of admission to gardai and apologised,” said Ms Browne. She quoted from his statement to gardai which said, “I didn’t have the money to pay for the stuff. I was stupid and I shouldn’t have done it”.
Ms Browne said her client has been out of work for a number of years.
“He is constantly applying for jobs. He is used to working.
“He is extremely embarrassed by it [the theft] and wants to apologise again,” said Ms Browne, who asked Judge Larkin to be as lenient as possible in the circumstances she set out to the court.
The judge fined Ensor €100.
