Claim that young girl in Limerick was abducted

A YOUNG girl is expected to be interviewed by specially trained gardai later this week who are investigating claims she was abducted near her home in Ballinacurra Weston.
A formal complaint was made to gardai at Roxboro Road garda station at the weekend after Katelyn Alymer, 6, was found by her mother at another house after she failed to return home.
According to her mum, Cathy, who spoke to a national newspaper, she became concerned for her daughter’s whereabouts at around 7pm on Sunday after she could not contact her on her mobile phone.
The six-year-old had gone out earlier in the evening to meet a friend but failed to return home.
Cathy Alymer says after she became concerned she spent more than an hour looking for her daughter when she could not contact her.
“I couldn’t find her for a full hour. I was walking everywhere,” said the mother-of-three.
Cathy said she located her daughter at a nearby house after being informed by a youth that he saw her entering the house - also in Ballinacurra Weston - with a man.
A garda spokesman confirmed they were contacted on Sunday night after Katelyn was located and that they have since received a formal complaint in relation to the incident.
They have launched an investigation into the circumstances which led to Katelyn being in the house where she was found by her mother.
While, they have received a complaint that the schoolgirl may have been abducted, gardai have not ruled out the possibility that she went to the house of her own volition.
“We have received a complaint, it is being investigated and we are not looking for any else,” said the spokesman, who confirmed that Katelyn will be interviewed by gardai who are specially trained to interview children.
No arrests have been made to date and the occupant of the house where Katelyn was located by her mother is likely to be spoken to as part of the garda investigation.
Although the schoolgirl is said to have been distressed following the incident, there has been no suggestion that she was physically injured in any way.
It is expected that a file will be prepared by investigating gardai in relation to the claims.
