A LIMERICK city man was granted bail after he appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of almost a quarter of a million euro worth of drugs earlier this week.

Around 3kgs of cocaine was seized when gardai attached to the National Drugs Unit stopped and searched a man after he alighted from a train at Heuston Station on Monday evening.

According to the Garda Press Office, the drugs seized, which have been sent for forensic analysis have a street value of around €140,000.

During a follow up search of a house in Limerick city, a further quantity of cocaine was discovered along with a quantity of cannabis, worth around €70,000.

Ronald Walsh, aged 59, of Hilltop, St Patrick’s Road appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court on Tuesday night after he was charged with drugs offences.

He faces a total of six charges, including possession of the drugs for sale or supply, under the Provisions of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Walsh was remanded in custody with consent to bail and is due to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Tuesday, February 26.

Garda investigations are ongoing and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the matter.
