IRISH Rail say construction work to replace Oola bridge on the N24 is on track.
The road on either side of Oola bridge was closed at midnight on Sunday and will remain closed until 6am next Monday morning.
An Irish Rail spokesperson says everything is going according to plan and the road will be reopened on Monday morning.
“Absolutely, that is certainly the situation at the moment and I hope that doesn’t change. They are working around the clock. The weather has been very good which always helps construction projects,” they said.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted on to the R505 at Grange Cross, through Cappamore, Doon, Cappawhite and Dundrum to Tipperary and on to the N24.
Westbound traffic is diverting on to the R515 though Emly, on to Knocklong where they turn right on to the R513 and continue through Hospital, Caherconlish and back on to the N24 at Beary’s Cross.
Irish Rail say the diversions are working well.
“On Monday morning very few cars appeared up near the bridge. There was one foreign gentleman in a truck that arrived but that was the only truck. He probably wasn’t used to the country.
“I’ve spoken to the people on the barriers and it has been very quiet,” said the spokesperson. Once the bridge is replaced it will remain single lane until mid-September for road surfacing to be completed.
For train passengers bus substitutions were due to end at midnight tonight.
