Bank Holiday appeal to Limerick motorists
GARDAI are appealing to motorists across Limerick to take care when driving during the Bank Holiday weekend.
Additional checkpoints will be mounted across the Limerick division between now and Tuesday and gardai say they will be particularly focusing on the behaviour of provisional drivers.
Assistant Commissioner Gerard Phillips is also appealing to motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition as we head into the Winter period.
“Our message is to each and every road user to take all necessary steps to protect themselves no matter how they use the roads. Vehicle users need to check their vehicles, and make sure they are “winter ready”. Every driver should also be adjusting their speed to drive at an appropriate safe speed for all the conditions around them,” he said.
With clocks set to back an hour on Sunday, other road users are being urged to take care when out-and-about.
“Pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists need to see and be seen. Hi visibility clothing is not expensive, and it makes a massive difference in the ability of others to see you early on a dark or poorly lit road,” said Asst Comm Phillips.
So far this year, just three people have died in road accidents in Limerick - the lowest for more than a decade.
