A GARDA forensic team is carrying out an examination of the scene of an overnight fire at a car and truck dealership in Croom.

The blaze destroyed a number of vehicles at Truckcar Sales Ltd in Fanningstown, with the damage likely to run into hundreds of thousands of euro.

The fire broke out shortly after 9pm last night. Six units of the fire service from Newcastle West, Rathkeale and Kilmallock were mobilised and spent several hours trying to bring the blaze under control.

There were no reported injuries but substantial damage was caused to the property and several vehicles that were on the premises.
