Champions among winners in Limerick SFC
CHAMPIONS Dromcollogher-Broadford were the big round one winners in the Limerick senior football championship over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The champions faced Fr Caseys in a repeat of last season’s semi-final in Tournafulla.
The Abbeyfeale men looked poised to inflict a defeat on the champions until Garrett Noonan popped up with a late score to seal a 2-11 to 2-9 win.
The holders have two goals from captain Micheal Reidy - both from penalties.
Elsewhere, Ballylanders beat Ballysteen 0-12 to 1-5.
The south Limerick men had a big scoring performances from Kieran O’Callaghan.
They were 0-8 to 1-2 ahead at half time after a John Collins goal for Ballysteen.
Monaleen were the biggest winners of the weekend with 17-points to spare over Adare 2-17 to 1-3.
They had goals from Ger Collins and Graham O’Connell and kept Adare scoreless in the second half.
St Kierans had a Brendan McCarthy goal to thank for their 1-8 to 0-10 win over St Patricks. The city side had eight points from John Mullane but couldn’t find an equaliser as Darragh Treacy kicked three points for the winners.
Teddy McCarthy got his management career with Newcastle West off to a flyer when they beat Pallasgreen 1-10 to 0-6.
The intermediate champions had two sent off and a return of 1-2 from James Kelly helped last season’s finalists, Newcastle West, off to a winning start.
The final game saw Galbally beat Mountcollins 1-11 to 2-5 with inter-county hurlers James Ryan in top form for the winners, who had three points each from Jack Donovan and Kieran Hickey 0-3.
