THERE are fears for around 30 jobs in Limerick following the appointment of an interim examiner to the Atlantic Homecare chain.

The High Court was told the DIY chain, which is owned by the Grafton Group, has been loss making since 2007 and that the accumulated losses are in excess of €21m.

A report from accountants KPMG, which was submitted to the court, identifies five of the groups 13 stores that are significant loss-makers and which may be considered for closure.

The Limerick store at Childers Road is one of the five stores identified in the report.

Decisions on the future of the five stores will be a matter for the interim examiner, Declan McDonald of PriceWaterhouseCoopers whose appointment was approved by Mr Justice Brian McGovern.
