THE body has been recovered of missing student Mark Casey, 19, in Limerick city.

His remains were recovered at 11.30am this Saturday in the canal bank in Rhebogue following renewed searches over the past week since his disappearance.

The Tullamore native, who was a student at NUI Galway, was last seen leaving Angel Lane nightclub at Robert Street in Limerick city centre at around 1.30am on Friday, March 7. Mark had been on a night out for his friend’s birthday, who is a student of UL. He was last seen on CCTV at 2.20am heading towards the Dublin Road.

Friends and family of the teenager made the emotional journey to Limerick each day from Offaly and Galway to help with the searches, which resumed this Saturday morning with devastating news.

A native of Ballyinasragh, Killeigh, Tullamore, he his survived by his parents John and Catherine, brothers James and Derek, and sister Shirley, who earlier said they were “so appreciative” of the time and effort local Limerick people and groups have given to the search.

Searches are still underway for LIT Steven Kavanagh, 21, from Clonlara who has not been seen since around 2.30am on Thursday.

Steven, the president of the LIT students’ union, is described as being five foot ten inches tall with tight, brown hair and a slight build. When last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a blue Limerick FC jacket and black runners.

Sergeant John Flanagan of Henry Street garda station said it remains an active investigation and vowed “we won’t stop until we get answers for the family”. Anybody with information is asked to contact Henry Street garda station at (061) 212400.
