GARDAI targeting the sale and supply of illicit drugs on the southside of Limerick city recovered quantities of heroin and cannabis during a serious of planned searches.
The co-ordinated searches began early on Wednesday morning and lasted for most of the day.
The value of the drugs seized, which has been sent for forensic analysis, is estimated at between €4,000 and €5,000.
It is understood that up to five houses and a number of other properties were searched under warrant during the pre-planned operation, which was led by members of drugs unit attached to Roxboro Road garda station.
Members of the divisional drugs unit and uniformed gardai also provided assistance during the day-long operation.
A garda spokesperson confirmed that small quantities of heroin and cannabis were found during the search in an area of open ground in the Keyes Park area of Southill.
No other items of interest were found and no arrests had been made at the time of going to press.
Gardai say this Wednesday’s operation, which is ongoing, is part of continuing investigations into the sale and supply of illicit drugs in Limerick city.
