REPRESENTATIVES of a County Limerick parents’ association are advising the public to be “aware and vigilant” after it was alleged that a man exposed himself to a student of the local primary school.

The incident, which is being investigated by gardai, came to light on Sunday afternoon.

Members of Effin National School parents’ association posted a message to their Facebook account on Sunday night and it has since been shared 350 times by social media users.

“This evening a young girl from our school had a very horrific experience. A man exposed himself to her,” read the Facebook post.

“The poor child is traumatised since the event, as are her parents. Please spread the word - we need to be extra protective over the mid-term and beyond.”

Gardai in Kilmallock confirmed that a complaint has been made in relation to an incident which occurred in the area on Sunday afternoon.

“A complaint has been made and we are investigating it,” said a garda spokesperson.

“It was an adult who reported it,” he added.

It is understood that a mother and child were in a car when the alleged incident occurred and the mother drove away when she became aware of the situation.
