LARGE numbers of participants are expected to take part in a 10km run and walk in aid of Milford Hospice later this month.
The event, which is supported by Deloitte, will take place at 9.30am on Sunday, January 20 - an earlier slot than previously intended, owing to the fact that Munster face Racing Metro at 12.45pm in Thomond Park that day.
The 10km circuit will take place in and around the campus of the University of Limerick, and is a fully chip-timed event.
All of the proceeds for the event will go directly to supporting Milford’s palliative care services.
“You can really make a difference by participating in this 10 km run/walk in aid of Milford Hospice,” explained Rory O’Neill, one of the organisers.
“All monies raised will go directly to Milford Hospice and will be used for the operational running of the wonderful facility,” he added.
Retired Munster and Irish rugby star David Wallace has lent also his backing to the 10km event.
“Milford Hospice has a very important role in our community and plays a key part in providing care to those in need,” he explained.
“As a Registered Charity, Milford Hospice is greatly dependent upon the support and generosity of the public.”
Niamh Keating, a senior manager in Deloitte in Limerick, said the event is aimed at people of all levels.
“It is our intention to bring together people of all different levels of ability for a fun day out,” she explained.
“We encourage everyone to participate - bring your friends, family, neighbours – everyone is welcome to come out and support Milford Hospice,” she added.
Entry for the run is now open at www.eventmaster.ie. Registration fee is €15, but a late fee of €20 will apply from January 13.
