A 24 person syndicate from Ballybrown GAA club in Limerick is celebrating this week after winning big in the EuroMillions.
Eight members of the group, which includes players, club members and even the bar manager, ranging in age from 39 to 75 years of age, travelled to Dublin this morning to collect the cheque for €192,935.
The Match 5 Plus One Star prize was from last Friday’s EuroMillions draw. The group has been playing the draw together, twice a week, for over a year and are looking forward to hosting a big celebration at the club in the coming weeks.
“It’s absolutely wonderful, not only to win this fantastic prize, but to be able to share it with my close friends and neighbours -and my three uncles who are also in the syndicate,” said Theresa O’Neill, one of two women in the syndicate.
“The others have always said that I’m the lucky one in the group because I’ve won a few small prizes here and there, hence why I’m responsible for buying our tickets. If I’m honest, I suspect it’s more to do with the fact that I’m the organised one but, after this win, I’m not complaining,” she added.
The lucky syndicate bought their €12 Quick Pick ticket in Martin Hayes’ shop, Tervoe in Clarina on the day of the draw last Friday. The shop also celebrated a big win last year, selling a winning EuroMillions Match 5 ticket of €105,550 in August.
Theresa added: “No one has any definite plans for their winnings just yet but we’re all looking forward to splashing out on a fantastic Christmas celebration this year. We’ll definitely keep on playing EuroMillions - we’ve enjoyed ourselves so much today that we can’t wait to come back.”
