The SUCCESS of Limerick farmers was highlighted with Edward and Olivia Fitzgerald named winners of the NDC & Kerrygold Quality Milk Awards last week.
The good news continues with this wonderful photo of the Frawley family from Croagh winning the Irish Examiner National Dairy Show 2013 Supreme Champion with Ridgefield Dundee Portea. And it’s two years in a row. They have dominated dairy shows with firsts at Baileys, Tullamore, Emerald Expo, Charleville, RDS Champion of Champions.
And the success for Limerick breeders continued in Millstreet. Caitriona Neville, 19, topped off a fantastic year by winning the 18-26 showmanship league title. Caitriona was champion handler at the National YMA Finals in July and also featured on the Irish team in Belgium for showmanship. To qualify for the showmanship league, Caitriona had to gain enough points through local qualifying shows including Cappamore and Limerick. This is only the second year of the competition and Caitriona has managed to retain the title. In the open showmanship competition, Conor Lynch, Ballingarry was reserve champion handler.
Tadhg Bourke, Kilfinny was first with Baldonnel Goldie Larissa in the junior 3 year-old heifer/cow class and also intermediate champion. Just over the county border in the January calf class there was success for Mike and Liz McNamara, Newtownshandrum with Barna Ingrid Cricket led by their daughter Emma - a promising young handler. Her sister Rachel was second in the July Class with her calf Laurelelm Stone Daffodil. The Laffan family from Kilfinny were third with Leagh Damion Princess.
