A networking event for business owners in Limerick and the Mid-West will take place in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare next week with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint of Limerick businesses while also helping them to save thousands of euro each year through business partnerships.

The SMILE (Saving Money through Industry Links and Exchanges) networking event was developed in 2010 to create mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses based on the concept that “one person’s waste could be another’s resource.”

SMILE project co-ordinator Katherine Corkery said that the many recent success stories from the initiative prove that there are valuable connections to be made in the Mid-West region adding that Shannon Airport has also expressed interest in the project.

“We look forward to welcoming businesses from Limerick and the Mid-West to our event in Adare,” she said.

“SMILE Resource Exchange now has approximately 750 members nationwide and has identified over 1,200 potential partnerships between businesses as well as identifying thousands of euro in cost savings for them,” she explained.

One of the most recent SMILE partnership success stories involving local businesses has helped both companies to save thousands of euro worth in packaging and waste management over the last 12 months.

Aaron PCB which is based in Co. Clare became a member of the SMILE Exchange project in 2011.

The business, which provides printed circuit board assembly and electronic manufacturing services to companies, required strong cardboard packaging.

A potential partnership was identified by the SMILE initiative between Aaron PCB and another Co. Clare company and an exchange was made.

Managing director of Aaron PCB Gerard Murray said that: “We receive boxes each week from another Co. Clare company and as an ongoing exchange this could potentially save us thousands of euro per annum so we are very pleased about that,” he said.

The SMILE Resource Networking Exchange event will begin at 8.45am and run until 1.00pm on Tuesday, November 20 in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare.

All are welcome to attend this free event however places are limited and anyone interested in attending the networking exhange must register their details on the website at Smile Exchange.
