Limerick woman killed in the Netherlands to be laid to rest

THE funeral will take place this Saturday of 64-year-old Rathkeale woman Martina O’Brien Viguurs, who was found dead in her home in the Netherlands on Monday.

Dutch police investigating the circumstances of her death have detained a man for questioning. He is due to appear in court this Thursday.

The mother-of-eight, who was originally from Rathkeale and also lived in Douglas, Co Cork, was discovered in her home in the town of Den Bosch, in the south of the country, on Monday.

It is understood her husband was at the scene when police arrived.

A statement issued by the local police said: “The woman’s husband, who was present in the home, was arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation.

Ms O’Brien-Vigguurs’ funeral will take place on Saturday at 1pm in St Mary’s Church, Rathkeale with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters Tammy, Dawn, Jane, Deirdre, Martina and Aisling, sons Seán and Seamus, sister Valerie, brothers John, Micheál and David, a large number of grandchildren and extended family.
