Following the success of its Community Games and Harvest Fair event, Southill Community Games Committee will host their AGM in the Southill Area Centre on Friday October 19 at 6.30pm in anticipation of next year’s games.

The Community Games and Harvest Fair events took place in the O’Malley Park area on Saturday September 15.

Due to its success, the event is hoped to become an annual fixture. According to Cathal Dillon, youth worker:“The committee are also striving to to make it bigger and better each year”.

The aim of the two day event was, according to Cathal, “to highlight the range of activities that young people from the Southill community can get involved in through the Community Games”.

Families from the area as well as those who have recently left the area due to regeneration were invited to reunite and share in a fun-filled day in the community.

The two-day event boasted a hectic schedule with activities such as handball and table tennis competitions for boys and girls on Friday evening, gymnastics on Saturday morning and athletics and 5-a-side soccer later that evening.

Younger children also joined in the day’s fun with face painting, a pet farm and novelty races such as the egg and spoon and sack race.

The day was organised by the Community Games Committee along with volunteers from the area and development officers from the FAI and Limerick City Sports Partnership.
