The Minister for Finance was visiting the AK Ilen Boat Building School at the LEDP in Roxboro, which has trained hundreds of young Limerick people in the craft of wooden boat-building over the past three years.

Run by a not-for-profit company, the school recently brought local youths together with master craftsmen in producing a fleet of five gandelows, a traditional Shannon Estuary craft, for a regatta during this year’s Riverfest. It was the first time in 65 years that gandelows had raced on the Shannon.
