Since the murder of Shane Geoghegan in Dooradoyle in November 2008, more than 15,000 people have lit ‘a candle for Shane’ on a special online condolence page which was set up by the Limerick Leader.

Thousands of people have also left messages of sympathy on the site, which has been viewed almost 1,000,000 times.

Following the conviction of John Dundon for Shane Geoghegan’s murder, the Limerick Leader is again offering readers the chance to light a candle in Shane’s memory.

Limerick Leader editor Alan English explained; “Within 24 hours the Leader put a page on our website, which invited people from Limerick and around the world to express their sympathy with the Geoghegan family. That page, five years later, has had close on 1 million visits and many, many thousands of people have lit a candle in Shane’s memory.”

Mr English said that Shane’s death “affected Limerick profoundly”.
