HUNDREDS of men across Limerick and the Mid-West are being invited to walk a mile in a woman’s shoes next month to raise awareness about violence against women.

The Rape Crisis Mid-West is urging men to walk a mile in a woman’s shoes as part of an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

The event will take place at the Pavilion on the University of Limerick campus, on Saturday, April 26. The walk will start at 5pm and go around the astroturf pitches starting at the Pavilion.

Although it is recommended that men pre-register for the walk, there will be an opportunity to register at the Pavilion bar and restaurant on the day from 3.30pm.

Wearing high heel shoes is optional, but men who are brave enough will be charged €10, and men who want to take part but not wear the heels will be charged €15. The shoes will be provided and sponsorship cards also are available.

Log on to www.rapecrisis.ie to register. All proceeds will go the Rape Crisis Midwest. Women and children can walk for free. Among those already brave enough to put their best foot forward are members of the Limerick City Fire and Rescue who were keen to help out and raise awareness.
