BIRDWATCH Limerick’s annual Christmas outing to Westfields takes place on Thursday, December 27 at 10am.
Maura Turner, Birdwatch Limerick, says it is their traditional outing to the unique habitat in the middle of an urban area.
They expect to see resident ducks, swans, coot, moorhen, pictured, and wintering wigeon, teal and many others.
Ms Turner advises bird watchers to bring very warm clothing, strong footwear and bring a binocular/telescope.
Meet at North Circular Road entrance at 10am.
Leaders will be Geoff Hunt and Maura Turner 087 7927972.
Meanwhile, after following the arrival of waxwings into Limerick from Scandinavia, mainly due to poor crops of berries there and in the UK, they are asking people to keep feeding these and other birds. See more in next week’s Leader on the rare visit of the waxwing.
