Hopes for Limerick to bring home Stellar magazine ‘Bachelor of the Year’ title rests on Co Monaghan man Tony Sheridan’s shoulders.

Hopes for Limerick to bring home Stellar magazine ‘Bachelor of the Year’ title rests on Co Monaghan man Tony Sheridan’s shoulders.

The Carrickmacross native, who has spent the last eight years living and working in Limerick, is hopeful that he will be able to bring the title to Limerick.

“Limerick is my home. I’ve lived here for eight years now and my social life, friends and work are here so it’s fitting that I’m representing Limerick,” said Tony.

The 25-year-old, who has a degree in construction studies and drawing from the University of Limerick, is now working as a tutor in the university while he studies for his PHD and says he was the first ever person to be nominated twice for the competition by two different people.

“My sister reads the magazine and put my name forward, but one of my friends from UL also decided to enter me in the contest and neither knew what the other one was up to. It was all by chance,” he said.

Tony, who recently appeared on Come Dine with Me, explained that he decided to enter the bachelor competition “as a bit of a laugh”.

“I just hope that I come across as genuine in the Stellar magazine interview as I think this competition is based on personality as much as it is on looks. I wouldn’t say I’m the best looking guy in the world, so I think it’s just as much about personality. I won’t succumb to any dirty tactics either like putting other people down. I just said I’d enter and see what happens and so far the support has been great. The college have really gotten behind me and everyone has been really encouraging,” he said.

However Tony added that he won’t be going to any great lengths in preparation for the competition.

“I won’t be getting my chest waxed or a spray tan done,” he laughed.

“I’ll just wear a nice suit and that’s as much as I’ll do for the Stellar magazine party.” However Tony says that he “takes it all with a pinch of salt.”

“The other day in class there were a few students giggling and talking at the back of the class so I walked over to them and they had the magazine out with my picture on it. I suppose I am getting a bit of recognition because of it but I can get a bit embarrassed by it too,” he added.

To vote for Tony text ‘Bachelor 113’ to 53307 and the bachelor with the most votes by midnight on October 10 will claim the ‘Bachelor of the Year’ title.
