A LIMERICK musician who has just launched his first solo album is set to perform two gigs in Holland this weekend.

Tom Ryan, 40, who is originally from Castleconnell wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered the album which is called The Songs Of A Madman.

“I just put my head down over the past few months and I picked 12 songs from 20 and I polished them off and then I designed the cover,” he said adding that the album is not in shops but is available online at sites such as iTunes and Amazon.

Although Tom regularly performs gigs at pubs in Limerick city and county, this weekend’s gigs in Rotterdam will be the first where he will be performing his own music.

“I usually perfom Irish tracks and cover-versions such as the Waterboys and Mundy and I might play one or two of my own songs,” he said.

This weekend’s gigs came about after he dropped copies of his album and contact details into a number of cafe-bars while attending a music festival in Rotterdam earlier in the summer.

He says he hopes to develop his career further when he returns to Limerick next week.

“It is very hard to get recognised and to get a foot in anywhere,” he said adding that he is exited about travelling to Holland to play his own music.

Tom, who has converted the attic of his home into a studio also teaches musical instruments such as the guitar and piano.
