THE Eurospar supermarket at the Watch House Cross, Moyross has been honoured at a retail awards ceremony.
The store, managed by Derek Coyle, has been honoured at the first Top of the Tree Retail Awards.
The scheme, run by BWG Foods, which operates the Eurospar brand in Ireland, recognises outstanding retailing in a number of departments.
This includes customer care, off-licence, butchery, fruit and veg and the delicatessan section. The Eurospar in Moyross scooped the award for its off-licence department.
This is one of only five Top of the Tree awards achieved in this category nationwide.
Supermarket owner Mr Coyle said: “Being a recipient of a Top of the Tree award is a significant achievement for us; we operate in a very competitive grocery market so it is a constant challenge to keep improving our offer while also remaining relevant and cost competitive to our local customers. This award is recognition for that effort but equally importantly it demonstrates to our shoppers that we are leaders in the field.”
Malachy Hanberry, the sales and retail advisory director BWG Foods added: “Whilst many things have changed in the marketplace, stores that implement best practice customer service policies and in-store initiatives often have more productive staff and are more successful overall. In the current climate success will be achieved by those stores who focus on exceeding consumer expectations. The Top of the Tree Awards programme is an excellent way to encourage all our retailers to achieve these objectives and I congratulate EUROSPAR Watch House Cross on this outstanding achievement.”
Mr Coyle will also be awarded the coveted EIQA (Excellence Ireland Quality Association) Q Mark.
The Eurospar branch in Moyross opened in 2011, replacing Supervalu which took the decision to pull out of the northside estate.
It employs 30 local people, and is one of 56 such supermarkets throughout the Republic of Ireland.
The brand is owned by BWG Foods and is operated in partnership with local independent retailers.
