RAHEEN firm ON Semiconductor Ireland has won a top engineering award.

The firm, based in the Industrial Estate, has taken the award in the small-sized company category of the Engineers Ireland Continuing Professional Development (CPD) awards for 2012.

The company - which employs more than 100 people - took the prize for establishing a programme that has enabled the company to find and develop the best electronic engineering talent in Ireland.

Last November, the semiconductor manufacturer confirmed it was investing €13m at its Limerick plant, in a move which saw the creation of 69 new jobs.

The awards are designed to recognise and reward an engineers vision.

Commenting on ONSemiconductor, Engineers Ireland director general John Power said: “The success stories we’ve heard about clearly demonstrate that investing in the professional development and up-skilling of people is money well spent. Increasing Ireland’s competitiveness and creating jobs is in everyone’s best interests.”

Other award winners included Cork multi-national Janssen which won the overall Company of the Year award and Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics which won the medium-sized category.
