LEGENDARY actor Richard Harris would have celebrated his 83rd birthday this week and the momentum toward an international film festival in his honour in Limerick is gathering pace.

To mark the occasion, the official website to promote the festival - Richard Harris film festival - was launched this Tuesday.

The inaugural Richard Harris film festival will take place on December 6, 7 and 8 in venues across Limerick city, though it will be primarily based at 69 O’Connell Street, home to the former Belltable Arts Centre.

The festival aims to celebrate the life and career of Harris, who memorably starred in such famous films as The Field, Gladiator, the Harry Potter series of films, Camelot, and many others of critical acclaim.

The festival will include screenings of new feature films by members of the Irish diaspora as well as a retrospective screening of one of his films.

The full line-up of events will be announced at the official launch on October 22.

Harris’ sons, Emmy nominated actor Jared, star of Mad Men and Lincoln, Damian and Jamie will be in attendance, as well as others from the film industry.
