Takumi are top
RAHEEN based firm Takumi Precision Engineering has been awarded two international standards by the Tánaiste and Enterprise Minister, Mary Coughlan, meaning it can expand into the overseas aerospace and medical markets.
Established in 1998, the company has a workforce of 45 people and can boast annual revenues of €4m.
It manufactures medical implants, surgical instruments, production aids and other devices for multinational companies in Ireland and abroad.
"Takumi management are confident that the acquisition of these standards will enable Takumi to seek out work internationally.
The aerospace and medical sectors have been identified by management as growth areas that are not as exposed to the global downturn as other manufacturing areas," said Gerry Reynolds, co-founder and managing director of the company.
Mr Reynolds, a mechanical engineering graduate from UL, worked in Japan for six years before returning to work with Fujitsu Isotec in Dublin.
He paid tribute to Enterprise Ireland for the support it had provided to the company over the last 12 years.
"Takumi's plan for ongoing expansion is to acquire work throughout Europe and beyond and develop an international reputation as a centre of excellence in its field," he added.
He said they were confident that the award of the ISO13485 medical device manufacturing standard and the AS9000 Aerospace manufacturing standard will greatly assist the company in developing its business in the international market.
