Shannon Development expects increase in French tourists with Rennes route
AER Lingus Regional’s new Shannon-Rennes route “opens up another valuable market” for this year’s tourism season, according to Shannon Development’s Dr Pat Daly.
The weekly seasonal service commences in June and comes on top of deals to bring more French tourists into Shannon this summer by adding charters to Bordeaux, Metz, Clermont and Strasbourg to existing charters from Paris, Nantes, Lyon, Toulouse and Marseille.
“Rennes is a significant gateway into the lucrative French market. These are tourism markets that Shannon Development has been targeting and we are delighted that these services have been secured. We look forward to continuing our work with Shannon Airport Authority and Aer Lingus Regional to maximise the potential of these routes,” said Dr Daly, tourism division manager, Shannon Development.
The new route to Rennes was announced last week as part of Aer Arann/Aer Lingus Regional’s summer schedule from Shannon. From March, the airline is also increasing frequency on its Edinburgh service from five times a week to daily. And the increased activity means Aer Arann will be basing a second ATR 72 aircraft at Shannon and adding to job numbers at the airport.
“With a second aircraft and an additional 20 Aer Arann staff, the airline is demonstrating its belief in the attributes of Shannon Airport as a regional hub,” commented Shannon Chamber chief executive Helen Downes.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 01:35 PMHow about "opening up" Shannon to all the Irish expats and potential tourists in New York who cannot get any direct flights to Shannon via Aer Lingus from October through March 25th! It's all about the French now but how about New York?
