Traffic lights to be installed at busy Limerick junction

TRAFFIC lights are to be installed at a busy crossroads on the northside of the city.
Limerick City Council has earmarked €70,000 in funding to install four sets of traffic lights at the junction of Inagh Drive and the Ennis Road, and Elm Drive, and the main road.
Limerick City Council has put out a tender for the works, and it is hoped workmen will be on site to install the lights by late June or early July.
Northside Fine Gael councillor Cormac Hurley has welcomed this, and says it will come as a massive boost to the residents of Caherdavin Park.
“I have been trying to get this for a long time. The people of Caherdavin have had extreme difficulty getting out of there,” he said.
In particular, those attending matches and training sessions at Na Piarsaigh’s nearby headquarters are affected, Cllr Hurley added.
“There is a lot of movement in and out there. They would have had to come out, and try and turn right, which proved difficult,” he said.
Limerick City Fine Gael TD Kieran O’Donnell agreed, saying: “This is a very welcome measure. We will now have traffic lights at the four crossroads. It will make a huge difference to all the residents around Caherdavin Lawn.”
He paid tribute to Cllr Hurley, who has raised the matter during his time as both a City Councillor and County Councillor in the Bruff electoral area.
“It is something which has been called for many years. Cllr Hurley has raised this both in his time as a city councillor and a county councillor. I very much welcome it. It will mean everyone at each corner of the road will be able to cross safely, so I hugely welcome the linking of both sides of Caherdavin,” he told the Limerick Leader.
Elsewhere, Limerick City Council has been given €5.9m to improve its regional and local roads allocations.
The majority, €4m, is dedicated to the Coonagh/Knockalisheen distributor road on the northside.
