Toll for Limerick Tunnel to increase by 10cent

The cost of using the Limerick Tunnel is set to increase by 10cent in the New Year

HARD-pressed motorists who use the Limerick Tunnel will have to pay an additional 10cent for each journey they make from the New Year.

The National Roads Authority (NRA) has confirmed the toll charge is set to increase from €1.80 to €1.90 per journey for a standard car from January.

Tolls will also increase by 10cent on eight other routes across the country including the M7 Limerick to Dublin motorway.

“These increases are in line with inflation,” said a spokesperson for the NRA.

The spokesperson added that despite the increased tolls additonal payments will continue to be paid to the operators of the Limerick Tunnel, which opened in July 2010.

The “traffic guarantee payments”, which total more than €6m a year are paid because traffic volumes are lower that had been predicted when the tunnel was being built.
