Plans for new Limerick hotel are approved
An Bord Plenala has approved plans for a hotel, which would be located next to the Unicorn Bar in Dooradoyle
PLANS for a €4m hotel near The Unicorn bar in Dooradoyle have received the green light from An Bord Pleanala, in spite of the recommendation of its own inspector and numerous objections by local residents.
The 50-bedroom budget hotel has been in the pipeline for a number of years, and could create 20 jobs if it goes ahead, according to previous reports from the applicant.
However, when contacted by the Limerick Leader the applicants declined to comment on any aspect of the plans, and wouldn’t say if the development is still viable.
Individual residents and a number of residents group had opposed the plans on various grounds, citing concerns about noise and traffic, as well as the over-supply of hotel beds in Limerick.
Limerick County Council had approved the plans, which would see two homes situated between the bar and the roundabout of St Paul’s Church demolished and replaced with a budget hotel and underground car park.
