Permission granted for care centre of excellence in Limerick town

CONDITIONAL planning permission has been granted for the construction of a centre of excellence for care and education - including 11 residential units - on the site of the Microtherm factory in Bruff.
Limerick County Council has granted permission for the centre subject to 17 conditions.
It is anticipated that the enterprise will provide employment for 20 people.
RCCN Caring Ltd (Rural Community Care Network) now known as CareBright lodged an application with Limerick County Council for the demolition of the existing Microtherm factory unit at Ardykeohane and for the construction of a centre of excellence for care and education including a community day care centre and 11 self contained residential units for independent living.
CareBright is a long established Irish home-care provider. The non-profit organisation focuses on caring for and supporting people to live independently in their own homes. They have been providing services in Munster since 1998, caring for the elderly, people with disabilities, post surgery, people who require specialised services, companionship or general support in the home.
“It is envisaged that the centre for excellence in care and education will provide a model of care to the community that is currently not available in the Mid West,” said Colette Ryan, general manager, CareBright, Knockainey Road in Hospital.
CareBright also has offices in Newcastle West, Charleville and Southill in the city.
Among the conditions specified by the local authority in granting permission is that the proposed building, permitted in principle by the permission, shall be designed and located on the site “so as to minimise its overall impact on the landscape”. During construction of the proposed development, no work shall take place on site outside the hours of 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4pm Saturday, or on Sundays or public holidays, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the planning authority. The wheels and underside of all construction traffic leaving the site shall be cleaned, as required, to prevent soiling of public roads.

“We would envisage that this centre of excellence will provide additional employment for 20 people. This proposed centre would not have come to fruition without a donation from the JP McManus Pro-Am Fund,” Ms Ryan continued.
CareBright was formerly known as RCCN (Rural Community Care Network). Due to the fact that their service is not exclusively rural - they provide care in towns and cities - they decided to change their name to CareBright.
They have a team of approximately 250 carers, managed and supported by a team of six care managers who are all qualified nurses with many years experience.
The care managers work closely with carers, clients, families, public health and community nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, GPs and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure person-centred care is delivered in the home.
