New Glasgow service for Shannon Airport
Flights between Shannon and Glasgow will resume in May
BRITISH airline Flybe has announced a year-round service that will operate three times a week between Shannon and Glasgow, a route that will bring 10,000 additional passengers through Shannon this year.
It reinstates a service to Scotland’s largest city last available from Shannon in October 2011.
This is the first new route announced since the airport’s separation from the DAA but follows soon after announcements of seasonal services to Chicago, Philadelphia and Faro made at the tail end of 2012.
Flights to Glasgow will commence in May and are now on sale at travel agents or at flybe.com.
It is hoped the route will not just suit Limerick fans of Glasgow Celtic but see an influx of British tourists to the Mid-West.
“The Irish market is very important for us and the addition of Shannon provides people in Glasgow and the west of Scotland with easy access to Limerick, which is the ideal base from which to explore the Irish west coast,” said Amanda MacMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport.
