THE Parkway Shopping Centre is to welcome two new shops - with the first arriving this weekend.

Children’s clothing store Kimberley’s Closet opened its doors yesterday, creating four jobs in the process.

It has taken over two units in the centre, having previously operated as a ‘concession’ within the popular IMASA boutique in O’Connell Street.

Kimberley’s Closet also offer baby gifts, clothes, and toys through an online business.

Meanwhile, another new clothes store is set to open in the revamped centre “by the end of September” said Roger Beck, manager of the Parkway Shopping Centre.

Born Clothing, which has outlets in Galway, Tuam, Athlone and Portlaoise is set to open its first Limerick store shortly. The fashion house boasts of being a mix between Brown Thomas and Urban Outfitters. Between eight and ten jobs will be created as a result of this investment, Mr Beck said.

Another new shop is being proposed for the Parkway Shopping Centre.

The centre’s holding company Lindat, has applied to Limerick City Council for permission to amalgamate three of its retail units into one 8,500 square metre store.

Planning documents show the area will be for retail usage.

“It will take in the old pub area [the Park Bar]. We already have permission to change that from public house to retail. So basically where we are at now is getting planning permission to knock down the walls,” confirmed Mr Beck.

He added: “We have a number of other stores which we are just waiting to get over the line. We expect these will be on stream by Christmas.”

The new shops represent a further boost for the centre, which has just welcomed a new large branch of Easons.

The 4,200 square foot store was officially opened last month by Finance Minister Michael Noonan.
