Limerick’s Radisson Blu makes pledge on weddings

Troubled times: Radisson Blu

MANAGEMENT at Limerick’s Radisson Blu Hotel, which is in receivership, have reassured couples due to be married there that their bookings are safe.

Sixty jobs are under threat at the former Limerick Inn hotel on the Ennis Road, after a receiver was appointed to the firm.

Clients who have booked with the hotel have received letters from management stating it is “business as usual” at the popular venue.

Married couples-to-be will hope the receivers can restructure the business to ensure it continues trading. If not, they could face losing deposits and seeing years of planning go to waste.

Irish Hotels Federation president Michael Vaughan believes the venue - set at the foot of the Clare hills - can remain operational.

The problems it is experiencing are symptomatic of the trade in general, he said.

There is better news at the Strand Hotel, where manager Sean Lally has brought in additional staff in response to increased revenue.

Pre-tax profits at the hotel more than doubled in 2011 from €27,718 to over €78,000. It increased its head count from 142 people to 155 people.
