NORTHSIDE engineer Liam Hanley enjoyed a reunion with a former neighbour of his - in the RTE studio!

Mr Hanley, a consultant engineer, lived beside the family home of RTE presenter Geri Maye, on the Ennis Road.

And the two came face-to-face when Liam was a contestant on the National Lottery’s Winning Streak show last Saturday night.

Liam was on the show after buying a winning scratchcard.

He took home more than €17,300, which he says he will give to “a very deserving cause”.

Five players are each week randomly selected from Winning Streak - and Liam was one of the lucky ones this time around.

When introduced by Ms Maye, Liam jokingly referred to how he thought Geri as a youngster took apples from his own back garden, which backed onto theirs.

“I hadn’t sen Geri for years, and it was a pleasure to meet a neighbour’s daughter again,” he told the Limerick Leader, “I assume she took the joke about the apple in good spirits!”

Liam revealed how the filming of the show took place over seven hours on Saturday.

In order to avoid any mishaps, they had to rehearse twice, with the final cut filmed two hours before the airing time on RTE.

Liam said RTE staff “strongly advised” him not to tell anyone the outcome until after this.

To this end, he says he kept his phone on silent until 10pm.

“It was a very educational experience, and hopefully the next time, I will get to spin the wheel,” Liam laughed.

Liam joined contestants from Galway, Tyrone, Longford, Westmeath and Sligo on the prime time television show.

Meanwhile, the same Garryowen store which sold Dolores McNamara’s €115m winning Euromillions ticket has proven lucky again for one Limerickman.

He made the perfect start to 2013, by securing €100,000 in the Millionaire Raffle game, which took place on New Year’s Eve.

The delighted winner - who has so far declined to be identified - received the raffle ticket as a birthday present from a family member.

“It is the best birthday present ever,” he beamed, admitting that he had to check to see whether he had the lucky ticket ten times.

The lucky ticket, with a number of 012-910 was bought in Garryowen Stores, where Dolores won her fortune back in 2005.

Presenter Brian Ormond drew the top six winning prize numbers as part of a special live broadcast close to midnight, from College Green in Dublin. The top prize was won in Donegal.
