THE money raised from the 2012 Limerick Press Ball has been distributed to the chosen charities, with the main beneficiaries, St Vincent de Paul and Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, to benefit substantially this Christmas.

Those organisations received €5,000 each with five other deserving local charities each benefitting to the tune of €1,000 each.

The Press Ball was held in September in the Castletroy Park Hotel, and featured over 300 personalities from the region’s television, radio and print media at the event, which marked the 60th anniversary of the ball.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Maria Byrne presented the cheques and paid tribute to the media for the fundraising and to the recipient groups for the huge voluntary efforts they make.

Press Ball chairman Ron Kirwan said: “The media contribution was insignificant in relation to the huge work and commitment and we were pleased to have the opportunity to contribute in a small way.”
