Limerick Leader readership up as total audience soars

READERSHIP for the weekend edition of the Limerick Leader has increased to 110,290, according to the latest Joint National Readership Survey.
That figure is up by more than 3,000 readers on the 2011 JNRS survey, which revealed the Leader as the most widely read provincial newspaper in the country.
The survey found that almost two out every three adults living in Limerick read the Leader each week. The Limerick-only readership figure is 98,000, or 63% of the local adult population of 155,000. The remaining 12,000 readers reside elsewhere in the country, and overseas.
The impressive reach of the Limerick Leader in the local community can be seen when its readership figure is compared to some national newspapers, with titles such as the the Irish Examiner achieving a figure of 189,000 and the Irish Daily Mail 184,000.
The JNRS survey confirms that, typically, a single copy of the Leader is passed around and read by entire families. While the print circulation of the paper has – in common with the vast majority of newspapers worldwide – continued to see gradual decline, the increasing readership tells a different story which is backed up by our burgeoning online readership.
That story is one of considerable total audience growth. Increasingly, media buyers and analysts are viewing a newspaper’s ability to reach an audience both in print and online as the true measure of its influence. The official figures emphatically confirm that never at any time in its 124-year history has the Limerick Leader’s coverage of local news and sport been so widely read.
A report by Webtrends, which provides the most respected and trusted measurement of online traffic, recorded the phenomenal total of 132,754 unique visitors during January 2013 to our website, www.limerickleader.ie and our mobile phone site, m.limerickleader.ie. Our online audience has rocketed in recent times, as more and more compelling content has been added. Webtrends also reported 874,481 page views for the site in January, a new record.
