Jim Corr supports Limerick debt campaigner

THE LIMERICK man who has barricaded himself and his family into their rural home for the past two months after they were threatened with eviction received an unexpected boost when musician Jim Corr visited his camp.
Mr Corr was one of over 100 people who took part in a protest at Mr Sherlock’s home in Feohanagh and the former pop star, a renowned activist and conspiracy theorist, was also among the speakers at the rally.
Former MEP for the South, Kathy Sinnott, also attended to lend her support to Mr Sherlock’s campaign.
Mr Sherlock’s protest began on August 16 after he received notice in the post that Bank of Scotland was seeking to have him evicted from his house and 50-acre property outside the West Limerick village over an unpaid mortgage.
Mr Sherlock, with the support of his five children who live with him, blocked the entrance to his property with 40 bales of silage.
As news of his stance spread across the country, individuals from across Ireland – many of whom had never met Mr Sherlock before – travelled to his home to join in his protest.
They set up checkpoints in donated portacabins, raised banners and flags at the entrance to the property, and have kept guard on the land 24 hours a day.
Mr Sherlock, who received national attention two years ago for his protest against the ESB’s threat to cut off his electricity supply, has repeatedly said that while his current situation remains at an impasse, he hopes that his example will inspire others around the country.
“Under no circumstances should family homes be repossessed ... there are no exceptional circumstances that warrant evictions, where people are trying to make payments”.
