Four new shops open in Limerick’s Parkway

FOOTFALL at the Parkway Shopping Centre has risen five per cent year on year, thanks to the opening of four new stores in the last quarter.
Since the middle of July, four big-name stores have moved into empty units in the suburban shopping centre, creating almost 40 jobs between then.
Easons book and stationary store got the ball rolling in July, when Finance Minister Michael Noonan opened its new shop.
Some 15 jobs have been created with the opening of this store.
Meanwhile, Kimberly’s Closet moved from the city centre to the centre, after previously operating as a concession in the popular IMASA boutique.
The baby gift and clothes retailer brought five employees to the Parkway centre when it opened in August.
Jewel’s, which specialises in designer jewellery and handbags, created three positions when it opened recently.
And the latest opening was Born clothing, which started business last Friday.
The nationwide fashion retailer created 12 jobs when it opened last Friday.
Shopping centre manager Roger Beck is hoping there will be at least one more opening this side of Christmas - and more in the New Year.
“We have a few more to come in. We are hoping to have one more opened before Christmas, then we have three lined up for the new year. We have a planning permission waiting on one, and we are waiting on two more,” he told the Limerick Leader.
Asked what he feels has made the retailers come to the centre, he said: I would put it down to the improvements the owners have made over the last number of years. The changes have meant retailers have looked again, and decided the Parkway is a great place to be.”
He confirmed footfall at the Parkway Shopping Centre has risen by five per cent.
“Our footfall is up five per cent year-on-year, so it is very positive. We have noticed a real positivity there at the moment both with the retailers and the customers. Hopefully, it will stay that way!”
Some 350 people work at the Parkway Shopping Centre both directly and indirectly, Mr Beck added.
Separately, Limerick looks set to get its first American Golf store.
The City Council is expected to decide on an application by the multi-national next month.
