Enforcement order served on Limerick hotel development

A COUNTY official has confirmed that Dooradoyle publican Bryan Greene is not allowed to use lands beside his Unicorn Bar as a temporary car park.
Gerry Sheeran, of Limerick County Council’s planning department confirmed an enforcement notice has been served on the Greene family, who are looking to develop a budget hotel on now-empty land beside the Unicorn Bar.
Mr Greene had bought two houses, demolished them, and flattened the land in preparation for the multi-million euro build next year.
But in the meantime, he said he would use the land as a temporary car park, for the extra churchgoers anticipated at St Paul’s Church opposite.
However, on foot of two complaints from local residents, Mr Sheeran said the council has served the notice.
“He has put a compound on the site, including gravel, and at this moment, it looks like it is being prepared more as a temporary car park than for the building of a hotel. He has put up floodlights. We have served an enforcement notice on him, telling him to refrain from using the site where two houses have been demolished as a car park, because he does not have permission,” he said.
However, Mr Greene said he was not aware of any enforcement order - and was not intending to use the land as a car park now.
The development is expected to create 70 jobs, 50 in construction.
