Shannon Airport has welcomed the early launch of Aer Lingus’ US schedule for the summer season as a vote of confidence in the demand for transatlantic services at Shannon.

The departure of the Aer Lingus service to Boston yesterday afternoon sees the airline commence its transatlantic services earlier this year and is particularly timely as it takes in the St. Patrick’s weekend festivities.

Flights will operate from Shannon to Boston four times weekly and to New York three times weekly.

“The summer season does not officially begin until the end of the month but there’s definitely a sense that it’s kicking off early for us this year with Aer Lingus commencing its transatlantic services earlier and in time for St Patrick’s weekend,” said Head of Aviation Development at Shannon Airport Declan Power.

“New York and Boston, inbound and outbound, are key markets, with significant demand so we are delighted to welcome Aer Lingus back,” he added.

Aer Lingus Director of Communications, Declan Kearney said he confident that the service between Shannon and the United States will be a success.

“This year is a big year for Aer Lingus’ transatlantic services. We have an earlier start to the year at Shannon and we’re increasing frequency at Dublin. We’re hopeful that the positive trend in visitor numbers from the United States will continue throughout the year.”

Shannon Airport will see its transatlantic capacity increase by 25% this summer.
