Former president Bill Clinton will visit Limerick in November for the All Ireland Scholarship awards ceremony
FORMER President Bill Clinton is to visit Limerick in November for an awards ceremony in the University of Limerick.
Mr Clinton will come to Limerick on November 17 for the annual All Ireland Scholarship awards ceremony, sponsored by JP McManus.
The former president, who previously visited in Limerick in 1998, delivering a powerful speech on O’Connell Street to thousands of people, will be a guest of honour at the awards ceremony, at which he will present 125 students with a third-level scholarship certificate in the University Concert Hall.
Previous guests at the ceremony have included former President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, and Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
The bursaries provide financial assistance to high achieving students from the north and south of Ireland who completed their Leaving Certificate or A Level examinations in 2012.
The scholarships, which were established in 2008, continue for the duration of the students’ studies and are worth €6,750/£5,500 per year.
Mr McManus has contributed a total of €32 million in support of third level education initiatives in recognition of the 32 counties of Ireland and it is estimated that over 1,300 students from the 32 counties will benefit from the scheme over its duration.
